It's always been largely a self-taught art. Now, however, you can become John Doe, pHd.
Well, maybe not a doctor of hacking, but you can at least get a genuine hackers' degree.
Britain's only government-accredited 'ethical hacker' course will run at the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland, where, "Students will be taught how to crack the most sophisticated security systems with the aim of advising organisations how to protect their networks," says The Times Online, going on:
"Applicants for the course, due to begin in September, will be thoroughly vetted. The Home Office and the Foreign Office will help to weed out anyone who might be tempted to put their skills to criminal use, and students will be monitored to ensure they do not stray to the wrong side of the law."
Ironically, self-taught Scottish hacker Gary McKinnon who, looking for evidence that governments had orchestrated a UFO cover-up, used PC at his girlfriend's home in Englad to hack into 97 US military and NASA systems, now faces extradition to America.
